Animal Crossing Phone Case
Animal Crossing Wild World was my childhood, I recall spending hours in the game collecting bugs and digging up fossils. With Animal Crossing New Horizons coming soon, I wanted to display my love of the game. Shopping through Daiso, I spotted a bamboo iPhone case and got the idea to engrave onto it with my laser cutter. The design I wanted to engrave was the back design from the limited-edition Nintendo Switch coming out with Animal Crossing.
The design was obviously too large for a phone case and so I had to cut and crop elements from the design to fit to a phone. I also wanted to include an Animal Crossing style Apple logo where the actual Apple logo is on my phone.
To start, I scanned the phone case into Photoshop and began cutting and pasting sections of the back design onto the case. When I was happy with the design, I brought it into Illustrator and began turning the image into a vector. Once complete, I exported the file to the laser cutter and began engraving on to the case. To make the engraving pop, I used a Copic marker to stain the engraving and then sealed the ink with wood oil.
